The Medical Information Specialist Certificate program at the Computer Career Center equips students with the skills and knowledge of procedures to work in any type of medical office. During their education, students become proficient in medical terminology, learn how to perform medical transcriptions, work with medical software, and perform insurance coding and billing. Many of these procedures require class training and a firm understanding of how to use and teach others to use medical software. These types of skills you acquire in technical school courses will allow you to work well in any type of office, like those in hospital, medical, dental, or other environments.

Medical information specialist work closely with nurses, physicians, and health care providers by being experts of patient data. This is a field for those who are interested in contributing to the medical field, but do not necessarily have an interest in working directly with patients. Patient care practitioners rely on medical information specialists to be precise and accurate in their field so they can determine the best course of action in their treatments.

Jobs for medical information specialists are expected to be increasing in upcoming years. More and more people are receiving treatment, opting to have procedure done, and having medical tests performed done ever before.
